ICFP aims to identify ways in which their specific skills can assist others within the community. This is achieved by participating in the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce and other local non-profit organizations.
Blue Cap, based in Blue Island, Illinois, provides educational, therapeutic, vocational, and residential services for infants, children and adults with developmental disabilities. They support personal growth and dignity for clients and families in Chicago and over 30 suburbs.
Loaves and Fishes Community Pantry believes food is a right, not a privilege. They offer healthy food options with dignity and respect. If you need emergency assistance or help understanding available community support, their representatives can assist with SNAP, LIHEAP, the Affordable Care Act, health assessments, dental screenings, computer classes, ESL, nutrition, grocery shopping, job search, and medical insurance.
Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry serves the Naperville area and all of DuPage County, Illinois, including Aurora, Bartlett, Bensenville, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Darien, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, Glendale Heights, Hanover Park, Lisle, Lombard, Oak Brook, Roselle, Villa Park, Warrenville, West Chicago, Wheaton, Willowbrook, Winfield, and Woodridge.
Since 1976, Lincolnway Special Recreation Association (LWSRA) has provided adaptive recreation services for individuals with disabilities through agreements with several park districts. LWSRA caters to individuals from preschool to adulthood who need specialized recreation programs.
Each season, LWSRA offers a variety of programs including Special Olympics Illinois participation, social activities, trips, athletic events, and an adult day program, detailed in their triannual brochure.
Funding is primarily from member park districts, supplemented by fundraising, donations, and registration fees. To ensure affordability, LWSRA offers scholarships funded solely by donations.
The Jaycees are Naperville’s organization for young people focused on philanthropy and volunteerism. They aim to develop Naperville’s future leaders through community service, fundraising, and recognition of outstanding efforts. Events like Lobster Day and The Last Fling over Labor Day weekend support their mission, and they enjoy the work while making a difference.
Fisher House Foundation builds comfort homes for military and veteran families to stay free while a loved one is hospitalized. These houses, located at military and VA medical centers worldwide, feature up to 21 suites with private bedrooms and baths, shared kitchens, laundry facilities, dining rooms, and living rooms. The program has saved families about $500 million in lodging and transportation costs.
Fisher House also operates the Hero Miles program, using donated frequent flyer miles to bring families to injured service members, and the Hotels for Heroes program, using donated hotel points for family stays near medical centers. Additionally, the Foundation manages grants supporting other charities and scholarships for military families.
Founded in 1987, Naperville Community Television (NCTV17) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to broadcasting local stories both on air and online. The station provides comprehensive local news coverage of the individuals, places, and perspectives that are significant to Naperville area residents. From offering a local perspective on national news to reporting on discussions at Naperville’s City Hall, Naperville News 17 keeps residents well-informed about developments within their community.
The television station covers local elections, provides live coverage of parades, and highlights a wide range of community events, performances, and presentations. NCTV17 also produces an array of talk shows that explore social issues, business matters, philanthropy, lifestyle topics, and more. Additionally, on Naperville Sports Weekly, the sports reporters cover both boys’ and girls’ varsity sports from all six local high schools, delivering fans exclusive highlights, interviews, and stories.
